JELL-Oranges

I was a teeny bit bored and needed something to do. So, thanks to Pinterest, I found a cute and fun little treat. Jello-filled oranges! Odd, but cute :)

Here is the setup. Poor Kroger brand was the oddball today.

Slice the oranges in half, scoop out fruit and pour in Jello.
If I had to do it over again, I would have sliced the oranges navel to navel (instead of between the navels). When we were scooping out the fruit, some of the navels left holes in the bottom. (As you can see the result of a hole in the middle of the pan)

After the Jello has "jellofied," cut the oranges in half and enjoy!

Doesn't it look kinda cool inside? Reminds me of an aquarium...

And, our extra jello found itself in bowls like these :)

And, that was my Friday afternoon.

Spring Break Review

Well, my last real Spring Break will be over in only a few hours. Sigh...it was nice. Here is a bit of review for my week! (Since I know you are SO interested in my simple, little life :)

I started by painting tires with Ciara at AJ's Eagle Project.
While there I discovered my hidden talent of climbing through spider webs!

I cleaned my room!! If you missed that, click here.

I then proceeded to spend the next two days watching this marvelous show:

We finally made it to season 6 this week (we started in January). Glad to have my handy Lost Encyclopedia by my side for any questions.

I spent a day with Kylie and Layla. Sorry, I don't have pictures, but Layla is growing so much! I hadn't seen them in a long time. It was a good visit.

I finished another apron. This time, it was for me :)

Today, I tried this new adventure (provided by my friend Emily)
Ok, mine don't look very pretty, but it was successful in my book. I'm definitely going to work out my kinks and do it really good next time! Thanks Emily for the idea!

And, with a bit of simple homework, a couple movies, & a tour of the Mesa Grande ruins, I can say that I had a good Spring Break! I did everything I wanted to (except a hike...sorry Rachael!).

Now, come Monday, it is back to the old grind:

Joy.

Well, THAT was a first...

I have unclogged many toilets in my life. However, these have been in the comfort of my own home. This weekend, I was in CA and I was traveling all over. So, many rest stops were in order.

(Don't worry, this isn't too graphic :)

We pulled up to a gas station for a quick break. I walked into the restroom and noticed a plunger. I seriously thought, "Wow. Thats is convenient should anyone ever need to use it." Lo and behold, I became that someone.

I was SO not leaving that toilet clogged. I was going to fix it before I had to report anything to the cashier. First attempt: flush, plunge, nothing. Second attempt: flush, plunge, teeny bit better. Third attempt: flush, plunge, a bit worse. (By this time, I am preparing my explanation speech for the cashier) Fourth attempt: flush, plunge, almost there. Fifth attempt: flush, plunge with all my might! And... hallelujah!

Left the restroom, warned the 4 people in line, and walked back to the car.

I can honestly say that was the first time I've ever plunged a public toilet. I sure hope there never is a second...

Cleaned Out

It is finally done! My room is officially clean. And not just ordinary clean, but clean-clean. I spent almost 12 hours on it today. Organized, dusted, packed holiday decor, dusted everything, and threw tons away. Whew.

I love days like this. I mean, I don't love cleaning, but I love the feeling right after. I'm ready for a good night's sleep and a few more days of lazy before my busy schedule starts all over again on Monday.

Busy, Busy

I wish I had more time to blog. Life is so busy. Busy with school. Busy with switching schools. Busy with needing a break from school in general.

What? This weekend is Labor Day weekend?? Fantastic. That means only 6 weeks until October Break.

I think that the Lord gave us national and religious holidays (Christmas, President's Day, etc) not only for observance of wonderful purposes, but He also knew that sometimes we need a break. Not from life, not from stress. But, just from our busy schedules.
Little breaks make the whole trip a little easier.

Green Eggs & Ham

This is my all-time favorite Dr. Seuss book. It is a classic. What is it about this book that makes it so special? For me, it is the memory of my dad reading to us as kids. I'd never laughed so hard at a book in my whole life. So, happy birthday Sam-I-Am! Thanks for the fun times!

Here is a short video giving tribute to the wonderful story. (Sorry about the short advertisement.) Among all those other famous readers, I still think my dad reads it best.

Roach Season?

You know that jittery, jumpy, uneasy, squirmish feeling you get after you've killed a cockroach? Well I have it right now. I just killed the 3rd roach in 24 hours. And, as a matter of fact, two of those were within 30 minutes. All 3 were either in my room or by my door. Ugh. I'm nervous to go to sleep tonight for fear of bed bugs...

No wonder I jump every time something moves or I feel a little hair brush across my arm. Please tell me you know what I'm talking about.

A Clean Car

I said I would blog about the goals for July. Today, I took advantage of the slight cloud cover this morning and cleaned my car. Yay! I threw on my swimsuit and shorts, turned on the radio, and went to work.

I cleaned out the garbage, all 11 water bottles, and various odds & ends including a spoon, a hula hoop, towel, and my dad's briefcase (why? don't ask me). Then I started to vacuum every nook & cranny! It takes a while with a handheld vacuum and a small hose. I was sweatin' up a storm I tell you. I topped it off with my last Vanillaroma air freshener. Ahh...

By now, its about 10:30am and I recruited Carla to help wash the outside. It took some backbone to scrub those squished bugs off the front, but they eventually washed away. I celebrated by taking a dip in the pool and a shower for myself. Wonderful.

I later got to drive in this now luxurious car. I took a deep breath as I sat inside and almost wiped away a tear as I parked and walked away from it. It was just so beautiful.

I know you were waiting for me to blog about washing my car. So there you have it. Satisfied? And no, I didn't really cry over a clean car, but you get the picture, right?

Shopping Tip for the Day

Take caution when shopping for lotions. Be careful not to squeeze the bottle while trying to smell the fragrance. It might get all over your face, hands, bottle, and floor.

And be especially careful if this bottle happens to be Rainkissed Leaves by Bath & Body Works. You might smell like it the rest of the day.

I'm just saying...you've been warned.

Pretty in Pink Part 2

If you haven't read my post called "Pretty in Pink" go read it. (June 9, 2010)
Today the story continues...

Friday's outfit: red & light red (not exactly pink) striped Minnie Mouse shirt, pink purse, pink binder. Thats IT! As I am leaving class, I start to think about my outfit and how I still had a red-pink thing going on. No sooner did I think that thought than I heard, "Pretty in Pink! Is that you?"
Yep, it was the SAME random guy. This time he introduced himself. He even noticed my red toes nails and red flip flops. I guess I was leaning toward a different color, but I still had the Disney theme going on.

I guess there is no recovery from this. The true test is whether or not he'll call me Pretty in Pink or by my name next time. And the sad thing is, I am sure there will be next time.

Eggs!

I did it. I have reached a milestone. I have cooked many an egg in my life and today I did what I never thought possible. Here are some photos. I made two eggs this morning for my breakfast. Tell me if you can spot the difference.

Egg #1

Egg #2

Do you see it?? (Ignoring the shape and location) Look at the yolk! It is not broken. YAY! I have always broken the yolk. I began to give up on my egg cooking skills...until today. These skills have been revitalized. Oh the thrill in my heart! This made my whole morning. Plus I got to have a filling breakfast. Which is almost as rare as me cooking an in-tact yolk.

I don't know about you, but that made my day.

Pretty in Pink?

I like pink. I'm not a pink fanatic, but a recent experience has me thinking...

Monday's outfit: Minnie mouse shirt with a pink camisole, pink flip flops, pink purse, and I'm carrying my pink binder. I'm walking around ASU and I hear "Lookin' pretty in pink girl!" I turn around to see some random guy. I laugh and say thanks. Feeling kinda good, kinda dorky.

Wednesday's outfit: Pink Mickey Mouse shirt, pink flip flops, pink purse, pink binder. I'm walking around ASU and I hear "Pretty in pink!" I look to see the same random guy. I laugh say "Hey, thanks!" Feeling kinda good, and a little more dorky.

Memo to self: No pink or Disney on Friday. Just in case.

What to blog about...

I realized last night that creating this blog cursed me. All day today I found myself thinking about my blog and everything that I could tell the universe! I found SO many happy things today that I wanted to share. "Hey, I could blog about that..." kept creeping into my mind. Making mental notes, I have created a list of little things that make this journey so happy!

Today however, what made my journey great today was knowing that I had topics to blog about. I'll admit, before creating this blog, I was skeptical as to whether or not I was going to have ANYTHING to write about. Today, that worry flew away as my mind was flooded with the little things in life that make it so great.

I will share one of those things quickly. Comments!! Today I received my very first blog comment. Wow, I am really excited about this blogging business. Thank you Emily for becoming my first comment! Now, I'm not saying this to make anyone else feel like they have to comment every time or even at all. (Please don't feel that pressure!) I am just expressing my gratitude that someone read and someone liked and someone commented. It is a nice little treat every now and then to know that someone read your whole post and took a few minutes to click and type for you! (I feel the same about Facebook Happy Birthday wishes. Some may say its lazy, but I say it still took time and thought. Not much, but a little.) I guess I take what I can get.
